Someone is ALWAYS watching

I post a lot of quotes on my Facebook and Twitter accounts. I find quotes I like or I retweet quotes friends have posted. They are little "pick me ups" and encouragement to me (plus an easy place to find if I need them again.) It's not a big deal, just something I do.

Proof that you never know who is watching, two days ago my youngest child brought me a list of quotes she had looked up so I could post them. I had no idea she was watching!

So, here is the proud mom posting the quotes the 11 year old daughter deemed worthy for my friends and family. Enjoy. I know I did. And remember...you never know who is watching you. Make sure what they see is something you won't mind if they emulate....

"Circumstances may cause interruptions and delays, but never lose sight of your goal."

"Prepare yourself in every way you can by increasing your knowledge and adding to your experience so that you can make the most of opportunity when it occurs."

"Anyone who goes through life trusting people without making sure they are worthy of trust is a fool. Yet there are people who may be trusted, men as well as women. There are as many differences in their natures as there are flowers in these meadows"

"A painter told me that nobody could draw a tree without in some sort becoming a tree; or draw a child by studying the outlines of its form merely...but by watching for a time his motions and plays, the painter enters into his nature and can then draw him at every attitude."

Sunday morning I had the privilege of praying with a beautiful young mom and her baby. It was a very nice day, not too cold, almost perfect for you cooler weather fans. I was talking to the baby about her hand being cold and her mom said something that stuck with me...ever since. She mentioned that she didn't think it was going to be cold when she left home and probably should have put mittens on the baby, but then she said:

"I didn't know I was cold until you touched me."

Psalm 119:18-20:"open my eyes so I can see what you show me of your miracle-wonders. I'm a stranger in these parts; give me clear directions. My soul is starved and hungry, ravenous! - insatiable for your nourishing commands."

Have you ever wanted SOMETHING to eat but didn't have a clue what? You went through the house eating everything you could find trying to satisfy that yearning. If you only knew WHAT IT WAS that you want you would get it and stop the crazy search. A lot of people do the same thing in their search for the one thing that will satisfy their soul; they try relationships, work, food, drugs, ANYTHING to fill that need they have inside. It's a place that only Jesus can fill.

The young mom remembered that I had prayed with her before. I remembered her. She remembered me. A remembrance and a simple touch can be an awakening to something you didn't know you needed....

"Come everyone who thirsts, come to the waters;
and he who has no money, come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price."
Isaiah 55:1

Is it ever a good thing....

when your child leaves a TWO PAGE "needs from the store" list??

Musing on My Blessings

Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

Psalm 31:5 (ESV)

Reading my devotions and listening to my music today I realized just how blessed I am.

I am blessed and favored for prayers answered, and now particularly, prayers unanswered (there's a song for that, not on my iPod, but it played in my car this morning. AWESOME!)

I am blessed with faithful family and friends who love me tremendously.

I am blessed with Angels He sends my way. The words He gives people for me, even from people I've not met before (the little angel lady last night was straight from God, and she spoke straight into my heart about what I have been protected from and how favored I am)

I am blessed with God's favor - I have what I need! I don't have to steal, cheat, lie, plot, ploy, deceive, or destroy to have my needs met. MY GOD supplies my needs! My God takes care of me. Faithfully, even when I can't see until the back side what He's done for me.

I am blessed and favored that He calls me His.

He gives me peace and He gives me rest.

He gave me freedom. And He's saved my life. I'm standing firm and holding the line.

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Galatians 5:1

Am I perfect? No, but I don't have to be, because HE is and He loves me!

The Invisible Woman

Dietrich Bonhoeffer quote

"There is nothing that can replace the absence of someone dear to us, and one should not even attempt to do so. One must simply hold out and endure it. At first that sounds very hard, but at the same time it is also a great comfort. For to the extent the emptiness truly remains unfilled one remains connected to the other person through it. It is wrong to say that God fills the emptiness. God in no way fills it but much more leaves it precisely unfilled and thus helps us preserve -- even in pain -- the authentic relationship. Further more, the more beautiful and full the remembrances, the more difficult the separation. But gratitude transforms the torment of memory into silent joy. One bears what was lovely in the past not as a thorn but as a precious gift deep within, a hidden treasure of which one can always be certain."

Are you doing what you are supposed to even when no one is looking?

This is the question I have been pondering for a while now. I have heard someone very dear to my heart ask this same question of his babies for 18 months now. I can see him repeatedly asking the question, and listening to their answers.

What does asking the question mean?

Look into yourself. Are you living a life that is honorable and reflecting the Father's love for us? Are you doing your own thing, rejecting what is right in the eyes of God and hurting yourself and others? Are you living as a trustworthy person or are you living a life that betrays the trust of others?

What exactly does the question itself mean?

It means, how real are we? How transparent? How willing are we for someone to spend an entire day (week, month, year) with us and risk seeing us for who we REALLY are. Who we really are - is this someone that is a reflection of Daddy's love or are we merely living secular-Christian lives? Secular Christian = someone who professes faith in Jesus as their Savior, but lives a life no different that one who does not profess this faith.

As Christians, we should be living authentic lives. Does this mean that we never make a mistake? No, but it does mean that we live our lives so that others, both believers and non-believers, see that we are real, dependable, and they can put their trust in us without fear of getting hurt. Can you be trusted? Who I see you to be RIGHT NOW - is that who you are when I'm not around or do you live a double life, something different that you wouldn't want me to see? If I put trust and belief in you because you profess to be a follower of Christ - will you keep that trust safe and protected by your actions, or will you betray me and the name of my Jesus?
